Mera Peak Expedition Overview
Mera Peak (6,476m) is Nepal’s highest trekking peak, located in the Solu Khumbu region of the Mahalangur Himalayas. This expedition combines stunning natural beauty with the thrill of climbing a Himalayan peak.
Ideal for first-time climbers, Mera Peak offers three summits: Mera South (6,065m), Mera Central (6,461m) and Mera North (6,476m). While technically straightforward (slopes rarely exceed 40 degrees), caution is needed for crevasses and fresh snow conditions.
The summit reveals five 8,000m+ giants: Everest (8,848m), Kangchenjunga (8,586m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,485m) and Cho Oyu (8,201m). The route passes through Makalu Barun National Park’s dense jungles before ascending into high alpine terrain.

Arrive in Kathmandu (1,300m) and settle into the city. You'll meet the team, go over the plan, and have time to ask questions or pick up any last-minute gear before the adventure begins.
Start the day with an exciting mountain flight to Lukla, famous for its dramatic airstrip. After meeting the porters and getting organized, begin your trek through beautiful hills and forests until you reach Paiya.
Cross a wooden bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and make your way up to the Kar La Pass. The trail can be slippery, so a steady pace is important. After the pass, walk through rhododendron and bamboo forests before reaching the Sherpa village of Panggom with wonderful views of Dudh Kunda Himal.
Continue through rhododendron forests and rocky paths, with the south face of Mera Peak visible along the way. The trail winds across ridges and thick forests before descending into the peaceful village of Ningsow.
Today’s path is a typical Nepali mountain trail—steep, narrow, and surrounded by dense forest. Look out for wildlife near the stone cave by the stream. Continue through the jungle until reaching Chhatra Khola for the night.
Walk through pine and bamboo forests where animals like sloth bears and jungle cats are sometimes seen. The trail leads to a stunning viewpoint over the Hinku Valley and Mera Peak. A holy cave along the way is believed to represent three elements of Buddha. After lunch, follow the river ridge until you arrive at Kothe.
With higher altitude ahead, the trek today is shorter and relaxed. Follow the Hinku River ridge and visit Lungsumba Gompa, a 200-year-old monastery. The views of Mera North and surrounding peaks are incredible. Thaknak is a small seasonal settlement used during summer grazing.
Cross the lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier to the open pastures of Dig Kharka. Continue past Nup and Shar Glaciers, walking up a steep trail with fantastic mountain scenery all around. Reach Khare, your base before the climb.
A full day in Khare to rest, acclimatize, and practice essential climbing skills. The team also checks gear and prepares for the summit push.
Climb gradually along the Mera Glacier toward Mera La Pass. From there, follow a rocky ridge leading up to Mera High Camp. The views from the high camp are unforgettable, with glowing sunsets over the mountains.
Begin the summit push early—around 2 am. After a steady 4–5 hour climb, reach the top of Mera Peak. From the summit, you can see Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Baruntse, and many other giants. After celebrating and taking photos, descend carefully back to Khare for a well-earned rest.
A full extra day kept aside for weather delays or any other unforeseen situation during the summit attempt.
Retrace the familiar trail to Kothe. After the climb, the valley, glaciers, and pastures feel even more rewarding and beautiful.
Leave the rocky high terrain and return to forests of rhododendron, bamboo, and pine. Walk along the ridge with Mera Peak behind you, marking the accomplishment of the climb.
Climb to the Zatrwa La Pass, then descend toward Lukla Valley. From the pass, enjoy a final panorama before walking down to Lukla for the last night of the trek and saying goodbye to the climbing crew.
Take a morning flight back to Kathmandu and enjoy the rest of the day relaxing or exploring the city.
